Ania Jamila is a Canadian producer, director and writer of Moroccan-Romanian heritage. She has lived in three continents and speaks five languages fluently. After producing and directing several video campaigns for Nintendo and Cirque du Soleil, Ania decides to return to her first love.
In 2018, she applies to the National Film Board’s Tremplin contest (an initiative for French-speaking filmmakers wanting to direct their first documentary short film) and she’s one of the 9 finalists. In 2020, Hotdocs’ Short Pitch (with Al Jazeera) selects her short film project (The Shoeless Boy) to be a finalist during the online pitch event. In 2020-2021, Ania produces her first series, which will be renewed for a second season in 2023: Hogtown (8 x 15 min). In 2024, her first feature-length documentary "Simply, Johanne" (85 minutes) will hit the festival circuit, as well as her first narrative series "Beirut Hotel" (8 x 22 minutes), she co-wrote and co-directed with Josiane Blanc, in coproduction with Daniela Mujica and Eric Idriss-Kanago.
In March 2024, her short film, "The Sun that Flew Away" is selected at Venezia Shorts. Right now, Ania is concentrating on several directorial and production projects, including narrative feature films (some in development with Telefilm Canada) and one documentary feature film. She's also working on the development of several narrative series, while in production of a documentary series.
