As an independent Producer/Director/Writer, I am honored to be a part of the BANFFspark Showcase. I bring extensive television experience to the table when producing projects. I have produced, directed and written hundreds of television and video projects, including award-winning television documentaries, commercials and promotional campaigns and multi-camera live events.
Over the years my company, Sherana Productions, has produced socially oriented documentaries for CTV, Global and Telus on a wide variety of topics, from teens with learning disabilities, to looking at aging in a new way – discussing topics like creativity, sex, death and dying, housing and health.
I’m attracted to socially conscious productions that serve the public interest. As an example, I produced “Tough to Swallow, Meals that Sparked a Seniors Revolt”. The film went viral and received unprecedented media coverage. It was instrumental in getting government to improve the shamefully poor quality of meals for older adults.
Every production must contain meaningful content, produced in a way that engages the viewer on an emotional level and goes “Above the Noise, Straight to the Heart”. This film features the Prophets of Music emerging artist program and the healing and transformative power of music. Barclay Hunter created PoM, after his son and four friends, who were musicians, were stabbed to death at a house party in Calgary.
And recently I completed a film for a client titled “United Minds, Dementia Re-Imagined”. This film documents a unique approach to supporting people living with dementia. This film has audiences discussing the abilities and rights of people living with dementia.
Carla is looking forward to growing her business and creating more, meaningful productions in the years ahead.
