Shazia Javed is the Founder, Producer & Content-Creator at LifeSketch Media, a production company that is committed to nuanced storytelling & perspectives from historically marginalised communities. Her latest film, '3 Seconds Divorce' streamed worldwide on Netflix, won international awards and was invited for impact screenings to various countries such as Australia, Malaysia, Srilanka, the UK, Ireland, UAE, USA and India. She is an alumna of Reelworld E20; Women in Director's Chair Career Advancement (WIDC) ; and the DOC Breakthrough program where she won a development award juried by industry leaders. She is also an inductee of Playback's 10 to watch 2020. This year she has been selected to participate in the BIPOC Film & TV's Showrunner Bootcamp as well as Banff Spark Accelerator for Women in the Business of Media. Her career spans two continents and two decades. She began work as one of the first on-field female camera-persons in India at a leading News Channel. She soon pivoted to making documentary films; and working as a director on TV shows. After her migration to Canada in early 2000, Shazia has worked in a variety of mediums and established a strong body of work. Her films have screened internationally at prestigious film festivals such as Hot Docs, Mumbai International, Durban & DOXA. Her documentary Namrata with the National Film Board was a finalist for three AMPIA (Alberta Industries) awards. She has garnered support from the Canada Media Fund, Indigenous Screen Office, Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council as well as Canadian and international Broadcasters such as the CBC and Rogers Media for her projects. Shazia has a MFA in Film from York University, a M.A in Mass Communication from Jamia Millia Islamia, and a certificate in Producing from NAIT.
