Mackenzie Donaldson

MACKENZIE DONALDSON is a Toronto and Los Angeles based director, producer and writer. Mackenzie began her career the moment she was born, learning to walk on sets and slowly graduating to actress all before the age of twelve. It wasn’t until she was an undergrad at McGill that she realized her talents lay behind the screen.

Named “One to Watch” by Playback’s Top 5 in 2015 and a 2016 TIFF Emerging Canadian Filmmaker, Mackenzie is most well known for her work producing the critically acclaimed and cult hit; Emmy, Peabody and CSA award-winning; and Golden Globe nominated show ORPHAN BLACK. Mackenzie also executively produced the award-winning digital series WHATEVER, LINDA, which she is now adapting into an hour long TV drama for Bell Media, through her production company The Donaldson Company. It will be Executively Produced by her producing partner Graeme Manson. And she is currently developing a series based on the cult favourite book BLACKBIRDS from Chuck Wendig, with Alcon and Clique Pictures.

She released her first feature film, and directorial debut, THE DEFINITES in 2017 through Mongrel Media and Turn Key Films. And is currently in development to direct and co-produce three features MONSTERA which she is co-writing with award winning playwright Kat Sandler and will be produced by Stellar Citizens and Scythia Films; WHIMPER a co-venture with producers Electric Panda and The Donaldson Company; and THE NIGHT MY MOTHER SLAPPED ME from writers Fiona Vroom and Meghan Hemingway. 

Most recently, Mackenzie finished producing SNOWPIERCER for TNT/HBO Max, from Tomorrow Studios/ITV, and which was released worldwide in May 2020. As well as her first feature documentary CITIZEN BIO, for Showtime, that was released in October 2020.
